People’s stories: Margaret
“In employment we need a better match between the skills local children are getting and those that are needed by local employers.”
“Camden is a borough of extremes and in Somers Town we are the extreme of the extremes. Over the next five years I would like to see a better mix of people here. The families who want to do well and can do well move out of Somers Town as soon as they can - hence the community never really improves.
“And in employment we need a better match between the skills local children are getting and those that are needed by local employers. We can’t go on with 80 per cent of jobs in Camden filled by people who don’t live in Camden. Just two of the 20 teachers at the local primary school are local people and I can think of only one local person working on the King’s Cross project.
“The council and others could be more inclusive and demonstrate what they are really doing for everyone. But we all have a responsibility to make our area and our homes better. We should all look after our places and try and make ourselves, our families and our neighbourhoods better.”
